Hello,
meet our team

Keeping people protected from unnecessary harm.
Rooted Retrofitting

Our Mission

“To strengthen all existing structures and environmentally protect pathways.”

Hugh and Todd formed Rooted Retrofitting after many years of working with each on projects.  After meeting while working for PaineWebber Financial Services they Co-Founded of Eco Green Renovation. Hugh’s vast knowledge of construction and construction management and Todd’s passion for construction restoration lead the two to develop Rooted Retrofitting.  The Footpath Retrofit Division was developed out of a need for qualified and capable contractors Hugh discovered while consulting as a REAC inspector for property managers. The Seismic Retrofit Division was something they had discussed in the past but until now had not focused on.  The earthquake drought that we have been in for the last three decades is something that we consider a major issue. We feel that retrofitting of homes and building is very important if we want to save the history of the bay area, so we decided to focus on seismic (earthquake) retrofitting.

We can help!

Hugh Walpole, the owner of Walnut Creek Construction and Remodeling Company, earned a B.S. in Business Management. After gradating high school in 1987, Hugh held positions of increasing responsibility with major home building firms and commercial construction firms.

Todd Claus
Co-Founder

I grew up working with my father and grandfather on all kinds for construction projects but soon after college I settled into the financial services industry.

Some reasons why you should choose to work with us

Reduce Housing Loss

Seismic retrofit of older buildings is the best tool for reducing housing losses. A recent study found that for every $1 spent on mitigation, you can save $3 in earthquake losses. Retrofit also protects investments, keeps residents in their homes, and keep communities intact.

Small Investment Yields Protection

Retrofitting of anchorage is a high priority because it provides a very large earthquake bracing improvement at a very small cost. Dwellings that slide off of their foundations due to lack of anchorage to the foundation have been very commonly seen in moderate to major earthquakes. Many older buildings were constructed without anchor bolts, or have too few or inadequately installed bolts. On the west coast anchor bolts became common in approximately the 1950’s

Hugh and his team were excellent. From design to build they were easy to talk to, listened to what we wanted and delivered on budget and on time. Would absolutely recommend them. First rate for professionalism, friendliness, trustworthiness and attention to detail. Will definitely be using them again for our next project.
